Thanks to the communists that we are now here in the US or anyone else in other part of the world. That is a selfish thinking but without them, who suppressed us and forced us out of our own homes, we would not be here now.

Also, because of them that millions or so people lost their lives in quest for freedom. I love VietNam and I will forever be a Vietnamese but I will never accept their idiotic ideology or forgive their suppressions. My Dad was prisoned for 7 long years because he was a high ranking officer and my Mom struggled to keep us going. That was because of them.

I am surprised to come across many VN people who said "30 thang 4 la ngay Giai Phong/Doc Lap" while living abroad and when I corrected them and they realized they were now thinking the right way. "30 thang 4 la ngay MAT NUOC"!!!! :=)

Lartéguy's village bad girl had gone wild with her new low level of ignorance from so many years of mixing with the misguided and the uneducated... whom only spat on the dirt floor as they threw her a few crumbs.

i cried a million dried up tears
like a dog that barks up the wrong tree
then i remember and and want forget.

    this i know:

    Thuc anh Carina,

I need to say this publicly... Thanks to both your dads and every other members of the ex military bodies of VNCH for having given away their own safety to protect everybody's else, me especially.

That April 30, 1975 made me realized one thing: each minute I was naively had fun in class with my friends, one soldier's life was taken away. My motive of keep going to school may come from that debt I had to pay back some how.

Thuc and other friends whom are lucky to have such a heroic father,

Please tell your father that I am deeply thankful for what he had done for me personnally.

    Carina,

I am sorry not to give you my story yet, because each time I sat down and wanted to start to write it down, it drew me so far back than that trip which seems to loose its signification if cut off what came before, and so, I am not sure if it's appropriate, so... but I'll find a way, please be patient with me.

    MINH

    Minh,

Thank you. All of us are very proud of what my Dad was doing. I almost joined the CADET when I got accepted to the VA Tech as an engineering student. My beloved Mom asked me to drop the CADET status but only accepted the engineering offer. I liked to follow Dad's footstep as becoming an Officer but I got to always listen to Mom because she was there for those 19 years that my Dad was in the service as a high ranking officer. She knew and she did not like to lose a son to this cause....

BUT then again, had I joined, I might be the first VN General that would be invited to Paris by Night and be famous by now...LOL

    Dear All,

I have not been active with our forum, I was busy spending time with family and organized the funeral of my beloved father-in-law.

just want to say hello and welcome our new members, and to share a thought with you:

I was invited to give a speech at the 35 yrs commemoration of April 30 at the parliament house in Sydney. I gave an account of the moment my family was part of that famous picture of the the helicopter on top of the US embassy in Saigon evacuating people, to the aftermaths which lead to the Exodus that resulted wounds of more than 3 decades that still seem raw....
I showed photos of the abandoned graves of refugees in the dense jungle, photos of the livings hugging the grave crying out for the dead.... Friends, my speech had opened eyes, souls and minds of the attendees (Australians and others); what they knew was the war ended, and they increased the 'quota' to accept Vietnamese boat people; they certainly know the statistics, what they don't know is the WHAT and HOW it happened.
We need to speak up more, people need to know, more importantly, our children need to know about this significant chapter of our history, it's the courage and sacrifices of our forebears that made up our complex and rich heritage.

    Carina

    Carina:

That's great to hear. Thanks for sharing. Yes, I agree we need to speak up more, publish more, write more, create more, and contribute more. I think we have not done a very good job collectively on this, and it makes everything you and others have done to document our history so far the more important.

    Carina,

Good job as always. Can you post your speech for us here too? This year, this is what was going on with VN boat people in Ottawa in the last few days
